Mt.Misen Summit

Mt. Misen rises 535 meters above sea level.

When you come to Miyajima island and it is a clear day, I really recommend you go up to the top of Mt. Misen (535mh). You can see so beautiful Seto inland sea there.
　宮島に来られた日が、良く晴れた日なら、弥山に登られることを、お勧めします。頂上からの美しい瀬戸内海の眺めは、それは素晴らしいものです。

The view from the ropeway is excellent.

 There are many routes to go up to the top.  You can choose walking on the hiking trails or using the ropeway, although the ropeway doesn't cover all of the ways and need another 30 minutes walking and climbing.　Almost all the visitors go up by using the rope-way but some of them walk up on hiking courses from the bottom or buy a one-way ticket for only up and walk down descending.

頂上に、行き着くには、たくさんのルートがあります。ハイキングコースを歩くこともできるし、ロープウエイも利用できますが、ただ、ロープウエイは全コースをカバーしてないので、もう２０分か３０分は、歩いて山を登ることになります。ほとんどの観光客はロープウエイを利用しますが、中には、麓からハイキングコースを登ったり、登りの片道だけの切符を買って.歩いて下ったりしています。(片道1000円）

 From some view spots of these routes, you can see many islands in the blue Seto inland sea. Some of the oyster beds are floating around the islands.
In the natural forest on the way, you can enjoy walking with fresh and clean breezing.
The air of the forests may give you something calm and comfort.able.
Sometimes you'll be surprised by deer suddenly appears in front of your way.

これらのルートの眺めの良い、数箇所から、沢山の島々が青い瀬戸の海に見えます。たくさんの牡蠣（かき）筏（いかだ）が、それぞれの島の周辺の沖に浮かんでいます。
自然の森の中では、新鮮な空気と澄んだそよ風を楽しむことができます。
その森の空気は、静けさと安らぎをを与えてくれます。
時々、急に鹿が目の前に現れ、びっくりさせられることもあります。

Below the window, many kinds of vivid green colors come into your eyes before early summer.
When it is autumn, the whole of the mountains covered by colorful seats and show us special pageants. 　

ロープウエイのゴンドラからの眺めは、素晴らしいものがあります。
初夏の時期には、窓の下の鮮やかな様々の緑色が、眼に飛び込んできます。
秋には、全山が、色とりどりのシーツに覆われて、特別のお披露目をしてくれます。

From the gondola's window

At the end of the upper rope-way station "Sisi Iwa station", there is a restaurant on the second floor.
The view of many beautiful islands in the calm Seto inland from the restaurant is recommended.
You need another 30 minutes walking to go up to Mt Misen from the station.

ロープウエイの終点駅(獅子岩駅）には、２階にレストランがあり、そこの窓際から見る美しい島々と静かな瀬戸の眺めは、お勧めです。その駅から、弥山の頂上まで、もう　３０分歩くことになります。

The  Eternal Flame has been burning for more than 1,160 years. 

 After 20 minutes walking from the ropeway station, you'll come up to a square
of Misen Dishoin Temple Hondo.
The Eternal flame holly house is there in front of the temple.
You might feel how happy you are when you could come here with your lover to this holy house.

ロープウエイの最後の駅から、20分歩くと、弥山大聖院寺本堂の広場につきます。

そこには、消えずの火の聖堂が本堂の前にあります。この聖堂に、貴方の恋人と一緒に来られたら、どんなにか幸せであるかを感じると思います。

Go and up through the huge rocks' tunnel, and soon you'll arrive at the top of Mt.Misen.

There is an observatory at the top.  It was built in 2013 and made of wood and steel.
It was designed by Mr. Sannbuichi who is a Japanese architect.
You can enjoy lots of panoramas' view from the balcony and take some rest on the second floor.
When it is a hot day, under the shade of the eaves, you may take a nap with cooler breezing from the sea.
Water for drink or food is not available here. It is recommended to get them somewhere down around in advance,

頂上には、展望台があります。2013年に建てられた、木造と鉄骨を組み合わせた家です。
この家は、日本の建築家の 三分一 博志氏が設計したものです。
その、屋上のバルコニーからは、たくさんのパノラマ風景が楽しめます。また、二階でくつろぐこともできます。暑い日には、その軒の影で、海からの、涼しい、そよ風を受けながら、昼寝を楽しむこともいいでしょう。
ここには、飲み水や食料はありませんので、もし、必要なら、どこか他の場所でそれらを、前もって、手に入れて置いてください。

If you want to know more about the islands' name or direction around, you may ask the volunteer keeping the observatory and the top of Mount Misen clean.

もし、周辺にある物の意味や歴史などを知りたいと思ったら、弥山の頂上や、建物をきれいにしている、ボランティアーの方に聞くと良いでしょう。

Who brought up these huge rocks around there?

After landing on Miyajima harbor, most of the tourists walk to Itsukusima shrine through the main road which is crowded by many tourists and souvenir shops. If you want to walk on a quiet road, I 'd recommend you Mikasanohama sea shore street along the beach.　When you walk on the street at the high tide and sunshine morning, you can see the O-torii-gate reflecting more beautifully. 

宮島港に上陸後、厳島神社に向かって、ほとんどの旅行者は、人の多い、みやげ物やがたくさんあるメイン通りを歩いて訪れます。
もし、静かな通りをお望みなら、砂浜に面した、三笠海岸がお勧めです。朝の満潮時中の大鳥居をみながら、その道を歩くと、満潮時には大鳥居がより、美しく見えます。

Cherry blossoms, Miyajima and Japanese

Ｓａｋｕｒａ(桜）, Miyajima(宮島）, Japanese（日本人） 
Ａt the beginning of April every year,  you have a good time with some views of beautiful cherry blossoms in Miyajima.
 You can see these cherry blossom views around not only Itsukusima shrine but near the hills of Miyajima town's park or temple's garden. And you can see them blooming even at the top of Mt. Misen (the highest mountain in Miyajima).
As you see in the photos, those cherry blossoms match with red colored Pagoda and shrine's building.

宮島では、毎年四月の初め頃、美しい桜の風景を楽しめます。桜をめでることのできる風景は、厳島神社の周辺だけでなく、周辺の宮島町周辺の公園の丘や、お寺にも、たくさんあります。そして、宮島で一番高い弥仙でも、桜が咲いている光景をみることができます。
写真には、桜の花と仏塔や神社の建物と良く調和しています。その仏塔は花に取り囲まれて、まるで、薄いピンクがかった白い雲につつまれているようです。

The cherry blossom is one of the national flowers of Japan, as another national flower chrysanthemum. 
The cherry blossom is called 'Sakura' in Japanese. And the name of 'Sakura' has been a word of well known in the world these days. 
This flower has been loved by the Japanese for a long time. Because it has had a close reference with our life, culture, and art since ancient.

桜の花は、菊と並び、日本の国花の一つです。その花は日本では「サクラ｣と呼ばれていますが、その名は今日、世界中に知られています。この花は、古来より日本人に親しまれてきました。それは、この花が日本の生活、文化や芸術に密接に関連しているからです。
Every year, Cherry blossoms are at their best during the end of March and the beginning of April in this region. But they burst into bloom and fall down quickly in the spring wind and the rain.


 When they are in full bloom, many people want to have a look their short period of the beauties at the cherry trees' in the neighbor. 
Some people, all the way, go to cherry blossom's park or hill and often have a drinking party under the flowers even at night time.  
An ancient famous poet (a.d.825-a.d.880) in the Heian era sang a poet as follows, 
’If this world of ours did not have cherry blossoms that bloom and soon fall, then our soul in spring would be quiet,restful,calm.’
Like this poem, Japanese people have had been interested in the  cherry blossom blooming.　Many forecasts of its blooming are reported  on TV screen in this season.

毎年、この地方では、桜は三月の終わりから四月の始めにかけて、いっせいに咲きそろいます。しかし、それらは、春の強い風や雨に打たれてあっという間に散ってしまいます。
桜が満開のとき、多くの人々は、近くの桜のつかの間の美を一目でも見たいと思っています。また、なかには、桜並木へ繰り出し、桜の木の下で、昼夜を問わず、酒盛りで盛り上がることもしばしばです。平安時代の詩人、在原業平（825年-880年）が、桜に寄せる人々の思いを、「世の中に　たえて桜のなかりせば　春の心は　のどけからまし　」と歌っています。
かように、日本人は桜の開花が気になる民族です。テレビで開花予想などもあり、話題をにぎわしています。

 The O-torii Gate in the morning sunshine seems welcoming the guests from all over the world.

朝日に輝く大鳥居は、世界中からやってこられるお客様を歓迎しているようです。

 When it is high tide, you can see the more beautiful O-torii Gate and Itsukushima shrine palaces like the picture above. They are reflected on the surface of the sea.
満潮時には、鳥居や神社がこの写真にあるように、美しく海の水に映えています。



"Hatsumoude visitors are relaxing
around the shrine hall.

 Every year, during the New Year holidays, which are called "Shogatsu Yasumi" in Japanese, many people come to Miyajima island for not only sightseeing but for "Hatsumoude" which is the first visit of the New Year to a shrine or temple. Most of the visitors mainly go to Itsukusima shrine or Daishoin temple. 



Three maidens in the service of the shrine are mediating "Hamaya" and "Omikuji".

They throw some coins into a "Saisenbako" (donation box) in front of the shrine or temple halls. And they pray and make a wish for good health, the happiness of family or the success of the business, etc. in this year. 
After then, some of them buy a "Hamaya" or try this year's fortune by drawing fortune slip "Omikuji".  "Hamaya" is an arrow with white feathers, which is believed to protect the owner from evil spirits. "Omikuji" is a thin strip paper which tells the owner's fortune of the future.

毎年、正月に休みには、多くの人々がこの島を訪れ、観光だけでなく、初詣にやってきます。初詣の人々は主に厳島神社や大聖院を訪れます。神社やお寺の賽銭箱に、小銭を投げ入れて、その年の健康や家族の幸せ、ビジネスの成功などを祈ったり、新年の誓いをします。祈りがすんだら、破魔矢やおみくじを買って、魔よけを祈願し、その年の運勢を占います。

Itsukushima shrine is built in the sea. When it is high tide, the surface of the sea comes up just near under the floor board. The shrine buildings consist of many "Shindens"(left)buildings standing in the sea and these "Shindens" are connected by the corridors.

Miyajima Man

Miyajima Man is something unique and mysterious.

Miyajima Man は何かとてもユニークで神秘的です。

He had been developing his life style from a primitive to a business man for a long long time.
After he retired, he enjoys walking or climbing around Miyajima just like a monk.

彼は、自分自身のライフスタイルを、長い時間かけて進化させ原人類からビジネスマン、そして修行者にと発展させてきました。
ビジネスマンを卒業した彼は、ちょうど修行者よろしく、宮島の辺りをウォーキングしたり、山に登ったりして楽しんでいます。

Q: Why are you walking around Miyajima and climbing Mt.Misen?
A: Well, I love Miyajima's nature and atmosphere. I feel calm and peace in the nature. There are lots of sacred places there.  I often visit those places and pray for the happiness and for the health of all of my family members and friends.  As you know ,walking and climbing are good exercise. And this is a very good place to do them. 

Ｑ：なぜ、あなたは宮島を歩きまわり、弥仙に登ったりするのですか？
Ａ：そう、私は宮島の自然や雰囲気が大好きです。その自然のなかに静かな安らぎを感じるのです。そこには、たくさんの聖なる場所もあります。私はそれらの聖地で私の家族や、友人すべての幸福と健康を祈ったりします。ご存知のように、歩いたり、山に登ったりすることは良い運動になります。そして、ここはそれらをすることができる大変良い場所です。
    

Q: Why are you so eager to take people to Miyajima?
A: Miyajima is the vest area for the people attracted by beautiful sightseeing spots and historical memories. The natural heritage is excellent. That's why the island has become a world Heritage site.

Ｑ：なぜ、あなたはそんなに熱心に、人々を宮島に連れてきたいたいと思うのですか？
Ａ：宮島は美しい景色や歴史的な観光の名所として最もふさわしい所です。そんなわけで、この島は世界遺産に登録されてきました。

Q: What is the most important matter in your way of the life?  
A: I think, just like every body loves and respects his or her own family members, I want to be kind to others and to have good relationships with real friends as much as possible.
   
Ｑ：あなたの生き方で最も大事なことは何ですか？
Ａ：私は、誰でも自分の家族を愛し尊敬するように、他人にあっても、できる限り親切にし、真の友人関係を作りたいと思います。


Q: What is the relationship with Toshio and Miyajima Man?  And which one is going to keep this Blog?
A: Toshio is my best partner. He is actually very busy for climbing mountains or playing "Igo"(popular board game in Japan, Korea, China), and operating Amateur Ham radio or studying English. So I have to introduce Miyajima on his behalf.

Ｑ：敏夫とMiyjima Manとはどんな関係ですか、また、どちらがこのブログを続けていくつもりですか？
Ａ：敏夫は 私の最高のパートナーです。彼は実際のところ、山に登ったり、囲碁の試合や、アマチュア無線活動、あるいは英語の習得に非常に忙しいようです。そこで、私が彼に代わって宮島を紹介をすることになります。

 Hiking on Miyajima island is very attractive and great fun. You might enjoy finding lots of beautiful views on the trail and interesting creatures or plants there. 

宮島のハイキングは大変魅力的で、また楽しいものです。その道筋には、多くの美しい景色を眺望することができ、また、めずらしい生き物や植物などが見られます。

 There are more than ten hiking courses in the island.  Among them, well-known courses are Momijidani course, Daishoin course and Oomoto park course and they are popular. Each of the courses is leading up to the top of  Mt.Misen  which rises 530 meters above the sea level. You can choose a various course by what you want to see or by your walking condition.

島には十数余りのハイキングコースがあります。その中でも、よく知られ、人気のあるコースとして、もみじ谷コース、大聖院コースと大元コースがあります。各々コースは海抜５３０mの高さの弥山の山頂に向かう山登りコースです。自分の見たいものや、体調などにより、さまざまなコースが選べます。



 This time I'd like to introduce you another attractive one. It's "Bakuchio" course. This course is on the east side of the island. Its trail is for Mt.Misen and it's a little longer but not so crowded.

今回は、もうひとつ別の魅力的なコースをご紹介します。それは「博ち尾」コースです。このコースの山道は島の東側を迂回して弥山に行くコースで、少し距離は長いが、そんなに混んでいません。

 You will find a signboard (up) at the hill near the start point on the trail.

The board shows the map of the historical battle between the Mori clan and the Sue clan(Sep30~Oct1 in 1555 a.d. ).
山道の出発点の近くの丘に看板(上）があります。その看板には、戦国大名の毛利一族と陶一族が西暦１５５５年９月３０日から１０月１日にとの間に行われた歴史的な戦いの地図が表されています。
There was surprise attack around this area and the Mouri clan defeated the Sue clan. At the beginning of the attack, the Mori clan's troops crossed this Bakuchio pass. The word "Bakuchio" means gambling in Japanese. When the Mouri clan's general got to know the meaning of the name of this hill, he encouraged his troops, saying "Victory smiled on us"  Then, the Mori clan got a great victory at the battle.
You can imagine the battle by easily by passing through this place.
この付近は、毛利軍が奇襲攻撃をかけ、陶軍を打ち負かした場所です。「博ち尾」の意味はギャンブルすなわち賭け事です。攻撃の前に毛利の軍勢がこの「博ち尾」の丘を通過するとき、毛利の総大将がこの丘の名前を知ったとき、彼は「この戦は、ここを通過した我々が勝つ」と彼の軍勢を大いに鼓舞して、大勝利をつかんだのです。この場所を通るとき、容易にその時の様子が想像できます。

When you are passing the trail, you might enjoy not only the war stories but the view of  Seto Inland Sea (up) from the ridge on the trail.
　
このコースの道筋をたどると、戦いの話しだけでなく、山の稜線から眺められる瀬戸内海の美しい景色が楽しめます。

The trail of the course is mainly on the ridge of the mountains.
So you can enjoy both sides of the views of Seto Inland Sea.
このコースの道筋は、ところどころが稜線となっており、両サイドの瀬戸内海の景色を堪能することができます。

 My hiking friends and I go to Misen and take this course often when it is good weather like in these photos.
私はハイキング仲間と、この写真にあるような良いお天気の日には、よく、このコースを通って弥仙に登ります。

It takes about two and a half hours to get to the top of Mt. Misen along the trail.
この道は、弥仙の山頂に着くまで、麓から約２時間半ぐらいかかります。
Bakuchio course starts from the ferry terminal - Itsukushima Shrine - Momijidani Bakuchio hill - Kayatani Ropeway Station - Shshiiwa  Ropeway Station - Reikado Hall - to the tops of Mt.Misen (530mh).
このコースは、フェリーターミナル港から→厳島神社→紅葉谷公園→博ち尾→萱谷駅(ロープウエイ）→獅子岩駅→霊火堂、弥山山頂（530ｍｈ）に到達します。












Look at these colorful maple trees !

You can see these colorful leaves around Momijidani Park or Daishoin temple at this season in autumn.

Miyajima is also one of the famous places with the scenic beauties of the maple leaves. 
Last Saturday and Sunday, Many people visited here and enjoy these beautiful colorful leaves.The island was crowded with thousands of people at those days.

この秋の時節には、紅葉谷公園や大聖院のあたりにはこれらの美しい紅葉が見られます。宮島は、このもみじの美しい眺めが望める場所としても有名です。先週の土曜日から日曜日にかけて、多くの人々がここを訪れ、これらの美しい紅葉を愛でていました。

島はこの二日間で数千人の見物客でにぎわっていました。
